Acronis OS Selector: The Ultimate Tool to Install Multiple Operating Systems on a PC

(!) Acronis OS Selector allows you to install an older operating system where a more recent operating system is installed: e.g. you can install Windows XP on a computer with Windows 7.

Before installing additional operating systems on your computer, install Acronis Disk Director 11 Home and activate OS Selector in your main system. See Acronis Disk Director 11 Home: Installation and Acronis Disk Director 11 Home: Installation of Acronis OS Selector.

How to install multiple operating systems on a PC using Acronis OS Selector

(!) If you want to install the new operating system using CD/DVD, in OS Selector go to Tools -> Options -> Startup Options and make sure that option Do not load CD-ROM drivers is unchecked:

(!) If you want to install a new operating system from floppy and floppy is not present in the Operating Systems list, create a new Boot from floppy item: select OS -> New -> Boot from floppy in the menu.

(!) You should physically reboot the computer and boot from CD/DVD (or floppy) before OS Selector loads in order to start the installation. If you boot the installation CD/DVD from OS Selector menu using the Boot button, the installation may fail.

During installation, the Windows bootable part will be automatically placed on the volume that you marked as active using OS Selector. When you boot either version of Windows using OS Selector later, each operating system in the list will recognize the volume where its bootable part is located as active. Installing additional Windows OS on a separate disk To install a new Windows operating system on a different disk, do the following:

By setting the target disk to be the first, you will force the boot part of Windows to be installed on that disk so that the new operating system can boot, even if the first disk is damaged or removed.

If you need to install several copies of the same Windows operating system (e.g. two or more copies of Windows 7, each having its own properties and software sets) you can use one of the above methods for installation. Alternatively, you can use Operating system copy feature: program will fully duplicate contents of Windows, Program Files, Users, and Documents and Settings folders, including all software installed inside the hidden BOOTWIZ system folder.

Windows 7 has been released for a long time and many users have installed it. You may need Windows 7 boot manager to manage multi operating systems. For example, Windows 7 & Windows XP, Windows & Linux.

In fact, Windows provides boot manager to manage multi operating systems and it helps you boot from either. Windows boot manager is easy to use. If you installed Windows XP before and you want to install Windows 7, you just need to install Windows 7 to another partition normally, after that, Windows will create a boot manager automatically. After installing Windows 7 and reboot, the boot manager will let you to choose booting from which operating system.

2. Current backup software cannot backup multi operating systems. If you have dual boot with Windows XP and Windows 7, you may install backup software to either operating system. The problem is, if you installed this backup software in Windows 7 and restore after a period of time, you can boot from Windows 7 but no boot manager again. What a troublesome problem.

Acronis Disk Director 11 Home includes a boot manager called Acronis OS Selector that is powerful, reliable, and easy-to-use. Acronis OS Selector allows you to install different multi-boot systems for your children, your work and for software tests. You can also protect multi-boot operating systems with passwords.

Acronis OS Selector is a program for Windows designed to serve as a Boot Manager. The main goal of the utility is to help you install multiple operating systems on a single computer and select the one you prefer at system startup.

During the installation procedure, the program writes its own code to the Master Boot Record. This is done to give it the permission to take control of the PC before any operating system. The old lines of code are saved to the files with the DAT extension to give you the possibility to restore your system to its original state, before installing Acronis OS Selector.

Dear sirs! I would like to consult with you on some issues. I want to install several operating systems including different versions of windows 8 in addition to those which were installed already. I want OS selector to recognize all of them and already installed windows 8 to start by default. The virtuals machines were useless. Now I have such disks and systems. One has 2 system partitions on which OSes are installed and it has one data partition. The other two store backup copies of data and system partitions. But there are enough free space to install. The systems are windows 8 enterprise trial 64 bit и windows 7 Pro 64 bit . Windows 8 loader shows both of them. The 8 one loads by default. It is shown in the windows 7 msconfig menu.I want to do the next: 1. Enter Windows 7 and create 4 partition on other disks 2. Use the partitions created to install windows vista 32 bit, Windows 7 enterprise 32 bit, windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit, windows 8 Enterprise 32 bit trial with help of OS selector. Disk director will be installed on windows 7 before it or used from bootable cd if any.

I want OS selector or Windows 8 loader to see all the systems. So I have questions:1. Should OS selector see all of them after their installation?2. Can there be conflicts between OS selector and Windows 8 loader which will lead to the impossibility to load any or all of the systems? I am afraid of it because Acronis disk director does not support Windows 8?3. Are there beta versions of disk director supporting windows 8?Please try to avoid complicated or unpopular computer terminology and folklore when answering when I am specialist in social sciences and computer self-taught.

A clean and tidy computer is the key requirement for avoiding problems with reinstall_svc. This means running a scan for malware, cleaning your hard drive using 1cleanmgr and 2sfc /scannow, 3uninstalling programs that you no longer need, checking for Autostart programs (using 4msconfig) and enabling Windows' 5Automatic Update. Always remember to perform periodic backups, or at least to set restore points.

Should you experience an actual problem, try to recall the last thing you did, or the last thing you installed before the problem appeared for the first time. Use the 6resmon command to identify the processes that are causing your problem. Even for serious problems, rather than reinstalling Windows, you are better off repairing of your installation or, for Windows 8 and later versions, executing the 7DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth command. This allows you to repair the operating system without losing data.

This happens for various reasons: the specifics of the work, the desire to learn new developments and other very diverse options. Therefore, in this article we will talk about how to properly install more than one operating system on a computer.

As you can see we have a bootloader Windows 7, which was determined by default, since this system was installed second and is the current one. Now we need to add a new entry to the bootloader so that when we turn on the computer, we can see the line with Windows XP and, accordingly, can boot from under it. To do this, click on the panel on the left "Add New Entry", then choose in paragraph type the required operating system (in this case it is Windows XP), and click, already on the right, Add Entry.

It often happens that your favorite game or program refuses to run on the installed operating system, and there is no desire to reinstall and work in another. How to be? Can install two operating systems on a PC at the same time and calmly choose which one to download. Novice users may be scared and refuse this method, but we assure you that with the right actions, installing several OSes on one hard drive is absolutely safe and simple. There are many programs that allow you to choose which system to boot, and with what parameters. You will be able to install Windows XP and Windows Vista on one PC, and enjoy a quiet work in the desired OS.

There are several ways install multiple operating systems on one PC However, they all have their pros and cons. The safest and easiest is to install the OS through a virtual PC emulator (for example VMware Workstation or Virtual PC). However, this method is slower to use and is not suitable for frequent work in the same Vista. The essence of the method is that a special computer emulator program is installed on a PC with an installed operating system, in which another OS is installed. The problem is that all the principles and blocks of a real PC are emulated, thereby giving an extra load on the central processor, giving it extra work. Using this method to install multiple OSes, you will not be able to enjoy full-fledged games and programs. 2ff7e9595c
